Rocky Mountain Outfit — American Mountain Men (AMM) party of Colorado

Scott Walker and Bradley C Bailey ventured into the cold mountains during January 20-22, 2012. They set out on snowshoes, Zenas Leonard style, to find Lost Lake near the Laramie River. After snowshoeing and hauling toboggans for 2 miles up hill they finally made it. Camp was made in the pines near the frozen lake. Scott dug down 2-3 feet of snow while Brad collected pine boughs from a recently blown down tree. The pine boughs made for a comfortable camp. Temps got down to about 15F and there was much wind. Snow was melted for water, and food consisted of hard tack and a simple stew. The second day we headed out snowshoeing exploring around the lake and looking for game. Only tracks were found and a couple squirrels. It started to blow and snow so we headed back to camp to collect more firewood. The wind shifted during the night and we awoke with 2" blanket of snow on us. We warmed up, packed, and headed down the long trail in the cold hard wind.
